How accurate is this rust scrap calculator?

It follows USA and international scrap specifications (ISRI). The rust curve is calibrated with recyclers in US, EU, and Asia. Always get final quote from yard, but expect ±10% accuracy.

What does “model year” mean for scrap?

For vehicles or heavy equipment, newer models contain more reusable components and higher‑grade metals. The calculator applies a multiplier based on year (see Table 3). You can type 2024, 2025, 2026 – it accepts future years with a premium.

Does rust always reduce value?

Yes — rust adds processing cost and reduces yield. Even “clean” rust (patina) lowers density. Our tool uses a non‑linear deduction: 1−(rust%/200). For example 80% rust = 60% of base value.

Can I use pounds or metric?

Weight input accepts kg (world standard). For pounds, simply multiply pounds × 0.4536 — we plan to add unit toggle soon. Placeholders show kg, but you can type any number.

What metals are included?

Steel, copper, aluminum, brass, stainless. More clusters (e.g., cast iron, lead) will be added. For now these cover 90% of rust scrap.
