Silver scrap FAQ — quick answers
❓ what is “silver scrap” exactly?
Any silver item destined for recycling: broken jewelry, old coins, fillings, industrial residue. The calculator uses weight & purity only — no sentimental value.
❓ how is purity measured in different countries?
• USA: karat (jewelry) or fineness (coins, bars).
• Europe: mostly fineness (925, 800).
• Asia: often percentage or karat. Our tool handles all three.
❓ do i need to enter model year?
Not for scrap value — but you can type any year (2024,2025,2026) as reference. It’s a free field.
❓ why refining loss?
Smelters deduct a small % (1–5%) for impurities/processing. Default 1.5% is typical for sterling; adjust if you know your dealer’s terms.
❓ where do silver prices come from?
We use your input price (USD/troy oz) — you can check live quotes from Kitco, LME, or any financial site. All values are estimates, not guaranteed.
